TRIGWELL William James

Compiled by Gordon Freegard

William was born to parents John & Fanny Trigwell (nee Petitt) of Paradise Street Brighton, East Sussex, England,on 23rd July 1876. At the age of 32 he married Gertrude Mary Reed in January 1908 at Union Street North, Brighton, Sussex, and they lived at Lickfield Road Ringmor till 27th May 1911 when they emigrated to Fremantle, Australia, on board the ship “Armadale”.
They eventually settled on a farm property at Jackitup, near Gnowangerup which they called “Barcombe Valley Farm” and registered a stock brand
XT8.
In 1920 Mrs. Trigwell won first prize for her homemade bread at the Gnowangerup Show.
It appears they farmed for many years as he was listed in the Postal Directory in 1945 as a farmer at Jackitup.
William passed
away seven years later on 16th March 1952 aged 75 years.
Gertrude lived for many years in the Gnowangerup townsite in a little house on the south-west corner of Corbett and Cecil Streets. She passed away on the 29th
August 1976 aged 91 years at the Permanent Care Unit, Albany Regional Hospital, Albany.
In 1962 the registered stock brand
XT8 was recorded as owned by Alwyn A. Freegard the now owner of the Barcombe Valley Farm property.
